The ultimate goal of epilepsy treatment is to abolish seizures, minimise medication side-effects, and maximise quality of life. Despite the availability of more than 30 antiepileptic drugs, achievement of this goal is still not possible for roughly one in three patients with epilepsy. In view of the substantial psychological and social burden that epilepsy brings to everyday life, it is not surprising that patients and families keep looking for alternative treatments.
