96 (I).   The Crime of Genocide
Genocide is a denial of the right of existence of entire human groups, as homicide is the denial of the right to live of individual human beings; such denial of the right of existence shocks the conscience of mankind, results in great losses to humanity in the form of cultural and other contributions represented by these human groups, and is contrary to moral law and to the spirit and aims of the United Nations.
Many instances of such crimes of genocide have occurred when racial, religious, political, and other groups have been destroyed, entirely or in part.
The punishment of the crime of genocide is a matter of international concern.
The General Assembly, therefore,
Affirms that genocide is a crime under international law which the civilized world condemns, and for the commission of which principals and accomplices – whether private individuals, public officials or statesmen, and whether the crime is committed on religious, racial, political or any other grounds –are punishable;
Invites the Member States to enact the necessary legislation for the prevention and punishment of this crime;
Recommends that international co-operation be organized between States with a view to facilitating the speedy prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, and, to this end,
Requests the Economic and Social Council to undertake the necessary studies, with a view to drawing up a draft convention on the crime of genocide to be submitted to the next regular session of the General Assembly.

http://NextNewsNetwork.com | Why is cannabis — or, as it’s more commonly called, marijuana — illegal? Prior to 1937 there were no laws against the cultivation or consumption of marijuana. In that year, however, the Federal Government, working in collusion with the politically well-connected DuPont corporation, which was developing synthetic plastics and wanted to beat back competition from hemp-based natural fibers, imposed suffocating taxes and regulations on hemp cultivation and sales.

At the same time, an excitable and not particularly honest man named Harry J. Anslinger began to preach about what he considered to be the unique dangers of cannabis. Until 1931, Anslinger had been Assistant US Commissioner for Prohibition.
Once alcohol Prohibition ended, Anslinger — rather than finding honest work — simply changed gears and focused on marijuana, which he apparently considered a uniquely versatile substance.
In testimony under oath before Congress in 1937, Anslinger insisted: “Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.” Eleven years later, once again under oath, Anslinger warned that Communist powers would flood the country with marijuana in order to leave our youth too blissed out to pick up a gun.
Some consider it unwise to consume marijuana. But this is undoubtedly true of alcohol, as well as tobacco and high fructose corn syrup — both of which are subsidized by the same government that imprisons people for using cannabis. Furthermore, there is a large and growing body of evidence that cannabis, or marijuana, has positive health benefits. A recent federal government study confirmed that marijuana has cancer-fighting properties.
So once again we confront the question: Why is it illegal to use marijuana — and by what authority does government presume to forbid consenting adults to consume anything they choose?
We’ll discuss these questions with Rick Simpson, who brings a unique perspective to the discussion. Mr. Simpson is a health freedom activist who has been driven into exile from his home country because of marijuana prohibition.
